Vocations

Given that “the duty of fostering vocations rests with the entire Christian community so that the needs of the sacred ministry in the universal Church are provided for sufficiently” and that “this duty especially binds Christian families, educators, and, in a special way, priests, particularly pastors”, (Canon 233 §1); the vision of the Archdiocese of Detroit will be to create a vocations friendly environment at every level so that those who are called by God, especially vocations to the ministerial priesthood and consecrated life, may hear and respond.

True Faith, True Fame
Meet Our Seminarian: Mark Tibai
Mark Andrew Tibai
The oldest of eight children (one brother and six sisters). I was born and grew up in Maybee, Michigan. When I was nine our family built a house just outside of Maybee. Divine Grace parish (formerly St. Patrick) in Carleton has been my home parish for my entire life. I went to my parish grade school through the sixth grade and then from seventh grade through high school I was homeschooled. I enjoyed playing baseball, soccer, and basketball in grade school and I played on a summer baseball league in Maybee until I was nineteen. I enjoy hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
I started thinking about priesthood in the fourth grade, but it took many years for me to discern if the priesthood was for me. I had some powerful experiences thinking about the priesthood when I was serving at my home parish, but these thoughts only lasted for a short time. When it was time for me to go to college, I was very unsure what I wanted to do, so I decided to go for an Automotive Engineering degree at Monroe Community College. It was in college that my discernment became very serious because I was really starting to ask God why I was here and what He wanted me to do with my life. I was invited to come to the seminary for a dinner and I was interested enough to pursue more information and experience of the seminary. It took a few months, but I applied and was accepted. I entered the seminary in the fall of 2009.
I have been very blessed to have a great family that is supportive of my vocation. The last four years at the seminary have been a great blessing on many levels. I have become friends with so many great men who have a desire to serve the Lord. Most importantly my relationship with God has grown immensely. I look forward to what God has planned for the future.
